"I bought a used Toyota Matrix in 2007 from the original owner with 65,000 miles on it, and it turns out the transmission was bad. I took it to SeaTac Transmission at the recommendation of my dad, and they rebuilt the transmission for about $1800.

Five years later the car has 144,000 miles on it, and the transmission fails AGAIN! The internet is full of stories of these crappy transmissions failing every 60,000 to 80,000 miles, so the second failure wasn't a problem with the way SeaTac rebuilt it. It worked flawlessly until the same bearings failed again. This time I did some research and it turns out the 6-speed from the Matrix XRS, Vibe GT and Corolla XRS bolts in just fine and is way more reliable.

So since my first experience with them was so good, I took my car back to SeaTac Transmission to put the 6-speed in. The owner hadn't done this particular transmission swap before, so didn't know how well the new transmission would bolt up or if any extra parts would be needed, etc. But he said he'd be happy to do it, and said he'd call me if there was any additional labor involved in the swap.

I think they could've added whatever they wanted on the labor, because it this wasn't a standard swap, but the initial estimate is what I paid, and not a penny more! I feel these guys are really honest, they really know their stuff, and I wouldn't hesitate to go there again. (But hopefully now won't need to!)"
